P ut into operation with an investment of 6.5 million dollars , MİGBAK stands out as a strategic local pulse product s packaging facility that empowers local producers and carries cultural heritage into the future.

Migros Group CMO Ekmel Baydur state d , "We have started a localization movement to encourage local production again" and said, "We are making Migros - branded pulses 100% local . Customers will no longer have to check the origin of the pulse products on the package. They will get the taste of old pulses they long for and consume them safely."

Migros has taken a very important step on its way towards strengthening local production by reducing imports of pulses. MİGBAK (Migros Pulse Products Packaging Facility), which was implemented by Migros with an investment of 6.5 million dollars in Keşan, Edirne, went beyond a packaging facility and became a symbol of its determination to localize imported pulses and its efforts to revive the valuable products that were on the verge of disappearing in the fertile lands of Anatolia.

With this facility, Migros safely brings the pulses it procures directly from more than 500 farmers all over Türkiye to consumers under the Migros brand, besides the forgotten tastes under the Anadolu Lezzetleri brand.

2026 Target: All Migros - Branded Pulses Will Be 100% Local

Enlarging its local production attack, which started with green lentils, by adding kidney beans, Migros is moving towards their goal of delivering more locally grown products to consumers. With this system, Migros not only provides purchase guarantees, training, and financing support to the producer but also enables monitoring the entire process from the planting of the domestic seed to the packaging facility. Migros analyzes the harvest delivered to the facility in its modern laboratories and offers the product to its consumers with the guarantee of Migros quality. Migros aims to make all Migros-branded pulses 100% locally grown by the end of 2026.

In addition, the valuable pulses of Anatolian lands, many of which have a geographical indication tag, such as Mardin bulgur wheat, Diyarbakır Karacadağ rice, Erzurum İspir beans, Ordu Akkuş beans and Edirne İpsala Baldo rice, once produced only in small family businesses in the region, are brought back into production under the Anadolu Lezzetleri brand, supporting the producers, the development of the region, and the continuity of production.

Ekmel Baydur: "We produce pulses entirely in our own lands with our local seeds . "

Emphasizing that MİGBAK not only offers reliable products to the consumer but also plays a strategic role in terms of sustainable agriculture and supporting local producers, Migros Group CMO Ekmel Baydur said, "We set out to produce the imported pulses entirely in our own lands using our local seeds. As Türkiye’s leading brand, we thought if someone is going to start this movement, it should be us with our 71 years of experience. With our trade in 81 provinces, we are the retailer working with the highest number of farmers and cooperatives in Türkiye. We joined forces with our producers, offered them training, financing support, and purchase guarantees. We experienced the local seed being thrown into the field firsthand. We packed the pulses with our own hands. Now we offer these products to our customers with peace of mind. When the consumer buys a Migros-branded product, they will know that it is completely locally grown without having to check its origin from the package. There is also no need to fill the freezers anymore. Starting with kidney beans, all pulses will be on Migros shelves not only seasonally, but also throughout the year with their first freshness."

"We carry our cultural and gastronomic heritage in to future"

"MİGBAK is one of the strong examples of how Migros creates value by working hand in hand with local producers," Baydur said, adding: "Everyone has a great longing for those traditional tastes made with local seeds. We know that historically, agriculture was taught to the whole world from the fertile lands of Anatolia. Now it is our responsibility to carry the cultural and gastronomic heritage of these lands into future. At MİGBAK, we test the pulses we buy directly from producers from all over Anatolia in our modern laboratories and deliver them to our consumers with high quality standards. Since the beginning of this year, we have carried out more than 2 thousand analyses in our facility before the acceptance of products."

Product Traceability Is Ensured from Field to Table

All pulses coming to the Migbak facility are analyzed in accordance with the Turkish Food Codex and the relevant legislation; they are examined with parameters such as moisture-humidity ratio, foreign matter control, and grain weight. In addition, efficiency calculations are made with pilot-scale productions in special machines. This way, the products are carefully inspected at every stage before being packaged and reaching the tables in 0.5-1 kg, 2.5 kg and 10 kg packaging variations.

With the batch-based traceability system in the MİGBAK facility, products are tracked from seed to table. Replicate samples taken with packaging are stored under special conditions for two years during their shelf lives. When necessary, retrospective data can be accessed by making a detailed analysis of these samples.
